Kenya Power (KPLC) and Safaricom have partnered to allow Safaricom customers to pay for electricity via Bonga Points.

Customers will be able to use the points they have received via the Safaricom Loyalty Program. These Bonga Points will now be used by Kenya Power customers to pay for electricity

Kenya Power’s 7.1 million domestic customers will now be able to redeem their Bonga Points to buy tokens or pay their bills at a cost of 20 cents per Bonga Point through the alliance.

“As an organisation, we are painfully aware of the effects this pandemic has had on many Kenyans. We therefore call on our customers to take advantage of this opportunity and pay for electricity using Bonga Points,” said Bernard Ngugi, Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Power. Bonga is a loyalty program introduced by Safaricom in 2007 to allow its customers to earn points based on the use of services on its network. Through a new initiative called Bonga For Good, Safaricom saw more than 1 billion Bonga Points redeemed for food and household goods.

Customers paying for electricity using Bonga Points would be subject to the relevant electricity tariff as stipulated by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
