Uber Kenya launched Uber Connect Car in Nairobi-Kenya, a new on-demand delivery service designed to make it easier for customers to send bulky packages across town.

Small and medium-sized companies (SMBs) will be able to request an Uber Connect Car trip via the Uber app for transportation of small boxes and numerous larger goods. Users will also be able to make several deliveries of up to 80kg with just a few taps on the app.

According to the company, proof of delivery through PIN will be used to ensure that the package was delivered to the correct person and to facilitate reference in the case of numerous deliveries.

Uber already provides delivery services through its bodaboda “connect” services. However, the service is best suited for smaller packages.

Imran Manji, the head of Uber East Africa, stated that the launch will help both drivers and riders, who will be able to rotate between picking up passengers and making deliveries.

“At a time when we need more opportunities that allow people to be more economically independent, we believe Uber and other platforms can be a bridge to a sustainable economic recovery.”
