How to Move Your Google Chrome profile to another Computer

One of the most widely used web browsers is Google Chrome.

You probably already know that Google Chrome enables you to establish several user profiles if you use it. You can enable sync after creating a user profile by connecting it to your Google account.

By enabling synchronization, you can store your browsing information, such as bookmarks, cache, history, etc., in the cloud. If you transfer your Chrome profile to another Windows computer and use Google Chrome there, you will be able to access all of your browsing history.

You may learn how to move your Google Chrome profile to another machine in this post.

Follow the instructions in this post to export Google Chrome settings and bookmarks to another machine.

  1. Creating a new profile and linking it to an existing Google account
  2. Copying the contents of the User Data folder to the new computer
  3. Importing a Registry branch

Let’s see all these methods in detail.

1] How to create a new profile and move your Google Chrome settings to a different machine

The simplest way to move a Google Chrome account to another machine is using this process. Simply start a new profile on a different computer. Connect that profile to your current Google account after that. The actions that come next will direct you in this.

  1. First, download and install Google Chrome on another computer.
  2. Launch Google Chrome.
  3. Click on the profile icon on the top right side and then click on the Add button.
  4. A new window will appear on your screen asking you to set up a new Chrome profile.
  5. Click Sign in. After that, you will be asked to enter your Google account details.
  6. Sign in with that Google account the data which you want to transfer to another computer.

Chrome will automatically link the newly formed profile to your Google account after you log in. All of your bookmarks, browser history, and other information are now visible on that machine.

The steps listed below should be followed if the Sign-in button is not functional:

2] Copying the contents of the User Data folder will allow you to transfer your Google Chrome profile to another machine.

The User Data folder in Chrome houses all user data. Your Windows computer’s C directory is where you can find this folder. All of your Chrome profiles will be moved to another computer if you copy this folder to its C directory.

You can do it by following the steps below:

Close the Chrome browser first (if it is already running). After that, launch Task Manager and end any currently active Chrome programs.

Open the Run command box (Win + R keys).

Copy the following path and paste it into the Run command box. After that click OK.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome

The Chrome folder in your C directory will be opened by the aforementioned command. You’ll find a folder labeled “User Data” there. All Chrome profiles with names, such as Profile 1, Profile 2, and so on, are visible if you enter the User Data folder.

The User Data folder should now be copied and pasted into a USB storage device, such as a pendrive. The size of the User Data folder will determine how long it takes to transfer data.

Eject the Pendrive from your computer after copying the User Data folder to it, then attach it to the machine to which you wish to transfer your Chrome profiles.

Then, enter the following command and hit OK in the Run command box.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data
The computer's User Data folder will be opened by the aforementioned command. Open the User Data folder on your pendrive now, and copy everything there. Paste all of the copied items into the User Data folder that was opened on the C drive. Choose Replace the files in the destination operation if the Replace or Skip files confirmation box appears. Open the Chrome browser now. A new window displaying all of your Chrome profiles will appear.

3] How to transfer Google Chrome profile to another computer by importing a Registry branch

By importing a Registry branch, you can also move a Google Chrome profile to another machine. Although I had no luck with this approach, some people have reported success. You can also give it a shot. We advise backing up your Registry and creating a system restore point before moving on.

Type registry editor into Windows Search and press Enter. From the list of results, choose the Registry Editor application. If you get the UAC prompt, click Yes.

Now, copy the following path and paste it into the address bar of the Registry Editor. After that, hit Enter.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome\PreferenceMACs
Select Export from the File menu by clicking. Specify a name for the file and save it to your pendrive.

Connect your Pendrive to another computer. Double-click on the Registry key saved in your Pendrive. In the UAC prompt, click Yes. Now, launch Chrome browser and you will see all your Chrome profiles there.
