MultiChoice Kenya today slashed the price of its DStv HD decoder by 48 per cent from Sh4, 800 to Sh2,499 and said it will sell it with a one month DStv Access Subscription as the pay TV war heats up in the country after Safaricom unveiled its Big Box service last week.
In a statement, MultiChoice Kenya General Manager, Mr. Walingo Chiruyi said the move will increase access to the premium content offered by DStv. DStv Access offers 50 quality channels of family entertainment combining general entertainment, movies, documentaries, news, children’s programming, music, religion and sport.
“At that price, subscribers will get a HD decoder bundled with one month free subscription on the DStv Access Package,” said Mr. Chiruyi.
The DStv bouquet also offers unique premium channels such as Zee World, Mindset Learn and Channel ED which is not available on other digital TV providers. Among other channels, DStv Access features BBC World, SuperSport Select, Disney Junior, Aljazeera, National Geographic Wild, Fashion TV and the Free to air local channels.
Also available on the Access package is Africa Magic which offers content that showcases the best on the continent.
Besides DStv Access, the firm has DStv Premium, DStv Compact plus, DStv Compact, DStv Family.
Safaricom Big Box’s offers 3G/4G data network, USB,SD, HDMI port, 30FTA channels in HD, Wi-Fi hotspot for up to ten and YouTube streaming all in one. Users can pay Sh4,999 as a deposit then pay Sh999 instalments for six months plus up to 6GB a month in data bundles a month or a one-off fee of Sh9,999, which comes with 30FTA access TV channels, up to 6GB in data bundles a month and free YouTube access. You can also buy bundles of up to 50GB for just Sh4,000 via airtime or M-PESA.
