Kenya Cyber security report launched

The Kenya cyber crime report 2014 was launched today in Nairobi with all speakers calling for the private sector and government to come together to make a formidable team and to make it more effective.

The theme , Rethinking cyber security: An integrated Approach –processes, Intelligence and monitoring. The main objectives of the report whose scope is between January to December 2013 is to share insights, trends and developments on Kenya’s cyber security threat landscape and to also provide a 360 view as well as create awareness.

According to the report, the top threats to cyber security are insider threats, Online and mobile banking, mobile money fraud, Boitnets, VoIP PBX, denial of service attacks and social media.

Additionally, Kenya was ranked among the most notorious when it comes to cyber crime alongside USA, Spain, India and Poland.

“Cyber-terrorists, spies, hackers and fraudsters are increasingly motivated to target our ICT infrastructure due to the increasing value of infomeation within it,” said William Makatiani, managing Director of Serianu Limited. Makatiani advise to organizations was that they should define cyber security processes, develop better intelligence and continuously monitor their networks.
