Safaricom has launched its high-speed fiber internet in Thika Town, Kiambu County as it moves to provide country-wide fibre internet targeting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and individual users in every home and business.

The launch in Thika adds to over 2,000 SME customers and over 1,400 buildings countrywide already connected to high speed internet fibre under the ‘Fibre for Business’ initiative. In Thika Town, the firm says it will connect 25 buildings under its Phase One of the fibre rollout which kicked off last year.

“SMEs play a critical role in our economy. Our goal is to provide a platform for these enterprises to grow and unlock their potential by transforming the way they do business using technology. So far, we have seen a lot of interest in the towns we have visited and we hope that by the end of phase one, we will have more SMEs on board,” said Rita Okuthe, Director, Safaricom Business.

Thika becomes the 11th town where SMEs will be able to enjoy fast, reliable and affordable connectivity after Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi, Machakos, Nanyuki, Kakamega, and Kisii.

In addition to Fibre for Business, other Safaricom propositions targeted at small businesses include the telephone solution Easy50 as well as the comprehensive product suite under Ready Business.

The Easy50 data bundle for SMEs offers up to 50GB of data on Safaricom’s network and can be accessed by up to 10 devices, using a wireless router or smartphone as a hotspot for a flat monthly rate of Kshs 6,000.
