Mr Jean Philibert Nsengimana, Rwanda’s Minister for Youth and Information and Communication Technologies launched Transform Africa, a conference and exhibition solely for Africa’s young entrepreneurs and also open to youth from around the world.
The conference, set for 18-22 March, 2013 in
Kigali will train and develop the youth’s ICT skills and involve them in discussions that will sharpen their knowledge and challenge their practical skills. The event will also help the youth entrepreneurs to meet and network with investors from Rwanda and globally.
Nsengimana said; “The number of mobile subscriptions in Africa has doubled in the past six years,” and added, “In Rwanda, the increase has been ten-fold over the same time period. Transform Africa will catalyze the transformation of the economic landscape of enterprises.”
Mr Nsengimana was speaking during the Young Innovators Competition at ITU Telecom World 2012 held in Dubai October 18. The five day event involves workshops, mentoring and pitching sessions and a further debate between young social entrepreneurs and ICT leaders, officials from governments and academia.
The annual Young Innovators Competition gives chance for young social entrepreneurs to shine before an international spotlight on their ICT projects or ideas and also is a platform for them to share knowledge and meet ICT leaders and investors.
