
World’s number four telecommunications services provider Bharti Airtel with operations in more than 18 countries across Asia and Africa on Friday appointed Segun Ogunsanya as Airtel Nieria‘s the Chief Executive Officer in a move to make the firm the most loved brand in Africa’s most populous nation.
According to the release statement Mr. Ogunsanya, will be in charge of business strategy and overall leadership for the firm.
Speaking about his appointment, Dr. Oba Otudeko, Chairman, Airtel Nigeria: “I am pleased at the appointment of Mr. Ogunsanya as the Chief Executive Officer and look forward to working with him towards making Airtel the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians. It is our resolve to continue building a robust pipeline of local talent in Nigeria as part of Bharti Airtel’s Africa Leadership Initiative. I have been impressed by the outstanding leadership qualities of Mr. Swaroop who has laid a solid foundation, during his tenure, for the long term growth of our business. I wish him success as he moves on in the Group.”
Ogunsanya takes over from Rajan Swaroop, who has been CEO Airtel Nigeria for two years. Rajan will now be the Non-Executive Director on the Board of Airtel Nigeria and will be closely working with the leadership team a Airtel Nigeria.
Ogunsanya will report to Manoj Kohli, CEO (International) and Joint MD, Bharti Airtel.
Mr. Manoj Kohli was delighted about Ogunsanya’s appointment.

Mr. Ogunsanya is a Chartered Accountant, with a Bachelors of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from University of Ife, Nigeria and has over 24 years industry experience across multiple geographies, organisations and diverse sectors like Coca Cola, Banking and Arthur Anderson. He was recently a Managing Director and CEO of Nigerian Bottling Company where he drove the firm into an over $1bn revenues.
Airtel Nigeria was on September 8 was named top telecommunications services provider in the country after taking home three industry Awards at the prestigious Nigerian Telecoms Awards, now in their 8th edition. It was named Most Innovative Telecom Company of the Year, Telecom Brand of the year and Customer Friendly Operator of the year.
