- Evans Kigen- Co-founder.
How does it work?
We look for highly motivated freelance writers good in giving instructions and like to write informative How To articles. To submit articles you must be a registered member of Kenyahow (This is necessary in order to allow you to view your current earnings at any time when you login into your account). For every successful article that is published, one pockets a range from kshs.40 to kshs.100 depending on:
- Relevance of the article
- Length of the article
- Image attachment related to the article
- Correct grammar and spelling.
Once your earnings reach a minimum payment threshold of kshs.1000, the amount will be sent via M-pesa. We have systems put in place to detect copied content. Coping content from other websites would result into termination of one’s association with Kenyahow. Articles submitted should be well detailed and provide relevant information as Kenyahow reserves right to reject them.
Who is your target user?
95% of the site’s visitors are in Kenya in which we target our focus on youths.
What is the difference between you and other news services?
We are based in Africa hence this is a competitive advantage as it’s high time to have rich How-To African content, as compared to ehow.com and wikihow that rather focus on mostly western issues.
What is your business model?
We’ll make our revenue through: Charging a fee for guest posting, direct advertising, Google adsense, Selling of eBooks and Magazines.
What is this thing about earning?
It is through the earnings program that freelance writers get rewarded. They earn from kshs. 50 to kshs. 100 for every article successfully submitted and published. Payments are made by M-Pesa when earnings reach a minimum of kshs.1000.This is a way of appreciating the quality of their work and motivate them to do much more.
Do people get paid by reading or its contributing only?
It’s only by contributing How-To resources that one gets paid.
What inspired the founders?
We found out that in one way or another people make search queries on famous search engines such as Google, Bing, AOL and Yahoo. Surprisingly, most of them would begin with the phrase “How To…” hence decided to come up with a niche site fed with all types of How To resources ranging from different topics and build traffic that is search engine driven.
Any competition?
Our main competitors are ehow.com and wikihow.
Future plans?
We intended to provide How To videos, distribute How-To eBooks and publish magazines on quarterly basis. We are also looking for ways to pay freelance writers outside Kenya as Kenyahow has big potential of expanding beyond expectations.
