Ghana’s Dropifi last week emerged the Best IT Startup globally by the US-based Kaufman Foundation’s Global Startup Open 2012 announced Monday, November 12, 2012, after beating 500 others in the 2011 Startup Weekend including those from UK, United States,Israel, China, India, Brazil.
The startup’s Dropifi won 2011 Accra Startup Week therefore entering the competition automatically and from which it has emerged “the best and brightest startups around the globe”.
Dropifi’s David Osei, CEO; Philips Effah, CTO, and Kamil Nabong, CFO also took the chance to launch the startup to a global scene with high hopes of monetization after operaing for more than a year from the Meltwater incubator in Accra which injected in a $50,000 equity investment this year February.
Dropifi replaces the “Contact Us” button on portals for firms to better track their incoming messages. A client fills in the Dropifi widget then it pulls his other details from online sources or social networks and forwards it to the firm.
According to the firm more than 300 firms mostly from the US and Europe have signed up with several in Africa already like Saya Mobile, Claim Sync and Retail Tower. MTN and Glo, and several other banks are interested in the $5 dollars a month service.
Dropifi has won other awards including Ghana’s TopApp of the Year 2012, Yahoo Finance / CNBC’s World’s Most Promising Startup, Number three on Forbes Top 20 Startups in Africa and 2011 Winners of Accra Startup Weekend among others.
