Monday November 19 Goal.com, now the world’s largest football website run by PERFORM sports media group partnered with BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM), to promote BlackBerry® smartphones and BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablets and other products on its platform of over 14 million football fans across Africa and Middle East.
The marketing promotion will cover Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, Qatar, UAE and Jordan. The promotion will also go on mobile platforms. Goal.com is in plans to develop a BlackBerry only mobile micro-site for its 9.6 million mobile users and will have an editorial team dedicated to that. The deal also entails local contests and live promotions in each market.
Speaking during the partnership, Daryn Wober, Managing Director, Global Business Development, PERFORM said: “This is a very exciting development in the evolution of Goal.com as both a global and a local platform. Our ambition has always been to provide our users with the best and most relevant football content which in turn will provide RIM with an opportunity to reach an engaged local audience.”
Digital sports media business PERFORM sports owns Goal.com and claimed that by July 2012, it had reached 29m unique users globally.
