Road Tripper, a free Facebook travel application has been launched by in SA by Europcar to help travelers share their favourite travel routes and tips or suggestions the best places to visit.
Users can also submit their own favourite sights, highway cafes, accommodation and even hidden gems or memorable points along the way.
The app is especially good for travel bloggers who note what happens to them as they travel and also show their places of interest. The firm is also saying that it has hidden prizes at mystery locations across the application’s map and fans need to unlock one of the mystery locations as part of their route within the application’s map.
Europecar chief executive Dawn Nathan-Jones said:”The journey is as important as the destination and with this new application we are hoping to get more South Africans to share their travel experiences with each other and highlight some of the best road tripping routes our beautiful country has to offer. In doing so, more people will be encouraged to travel and re-discover the joy of road tripping.”
Nathan-Jones added: “Fans can better plan their trips and once the journey has been completed, share their experience with their friends and family. The fans can theme their trips around 4×4 trails, cycling routes or even their favourite restaurants.”
Road Tripper also allows fans to plan or remember a particular route from their Facebook profiles and they can also set their own stop overs or add images either from the journey or their Facebook albums or Google’s Street view. Road Tripper uses Google Maps, Foursquare and Facebook.
Nathan-Jones also says that they have partnered with well known bloggers such as Andrew Brauteseth of the ‘Guy with Camera’. Brauteseth and the others will be sharing their hidden gems and favourite road trips annually.
