Three people, from Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg respectively, have each received a bursary towards a National Certificate (NQF Level 4) in Payroll Administration Services course from Accsys, a member of the Business Connexion (BCX) Group and a member of the South African Payroll Association (SAPA).
Sharitha Mohan from the eThekwini Municipality in Durban, Buyiswa Nkosi from UNISA in Johannesburg and a 3rd delegate from Johnson & Johnson in Cape Town, were each handed the bursary when they attended SAPA’s annual national conference in September.
Accsys has confirmed that the top learner amongst these three winners will be awarded with a further bursary to continue to the two-year NQF Level 5 Payroll Administration Diploma, recognised as the highest level of qualification available in the payroll industry.
The certification and Diploma course equips learners with numerous sought-after industry skill sets to manage payroll best practice and statutes, tax calculation, tax year end procedures, project management, medical aid, pension fund and allowances, amongst others.
Accsys is a national supplier of people management software and hardware solutions within the HR, payroll and time & attendance space.
The company regularly contributes to the SAPA conference and annually makes bursaries available – to the value of around R40 000 this year.
Teryl Schroenn, CEO of Accsys, says, “Skills development, training and other learning initiatives are key to efforts to develop the industry’s skills pool. We are proud to continue to support the Payroll Association and its efforts to professionalize the industry.”
This sustained and reliable level of support has not gone unnoticed by management at SAPA.

James McKerrell, Chairperson of the industry representative organisation, praised Accsys for its ongoing commitment to the industry and specifically its generosity in helping people with access to education.
“Accsys is seriously committed to the advancement of payroll and the continuous need to develop skills. The bursaries will not only benefit the recipients, but also the industry as a whole as theoretical knowledge is applied in the workplace. We are proud of our affiliation to Accsys and we thank the company for its contribution and the important role it plays within the Association,” says McKerrell.
