TechMoran caught up with the founders and here is what they had to say.
1. When was it launched and where?
It is not yet launched;but it went online on December 24th,2012.
It was Launched In Lagos,Nigeria.
2. A re you guys the founders?
Yes, am Sinclair Obasi, the Founder and Kingsley Umechukwu is my Co-Founder.
4. Why SnookBase?
Music and Movies are arguably the most popular content across sub-Saharan Africa.
It is also Nigeria’s second largest industry, generating over $590m a year and employing over 200,000 people in the country, taking advantage of Africa’s mobile payment ecosystem to target a potential market of 500 million users, and on YouTube there are over 3 million African Entertainment videos, so B tends to aggregate content from major video upload websites like YouTube,Vimeo, Dailymotion, making it easier for Africans to search and add their favorite African videos.
We use API’s from these Video websites to make searching and adding of these videos very easy,so a user can see his favorite music video either on YouTube,Vimeo or Dailymotion and just copies the link, add the Video, and the person can enjoy the video free.
We would like to keep that in-house but we got real good numbers of users rolling in.
8. What is your business model?
SnooKBase is a video streaming platform that leverages Africa’s Fast Internet penetration to bring the best African video content directly into the hands of those who really want it, wherever it may be;be it YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion etc.
We run on an Ad-supported Model and offer Video-On-Demand that runs on a micro-payment solution.
9. Any competition in town?
We don’t see any direct competitors around. We are just starting up, lets see how six months from now goes.
10. How will you take on YouTube itself?
We don’t fight YouTube, we are YouTube partners. We are just trying to extract African video content on to one platform, so its like a Google of African Entertainment.
11. Any funding yet?
Self funded, but we are in talks.
Djoss.TV is our target; so people can share or discuss what they are watching on SnooKBase TV,then we would love to work with a lot of content providers, like I said we are in talks.
piracy is the bad guy,but we got a solution coming out for it.
