American multinational semiconductor chip maker, Intel Corporation is launching Intel Inside smartphones in Kenya Thursday, its first launch in Africa. A move that will increase competition in the country’s smartphone market, increase ownership and spread of smartphones and increase market for Android developers too.

Founded on July 18, 1968, Intel Corp is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Intel also makes motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers and integrated circuits, flash memory, graphic chips, embedded processors and other devices related to communications and computing.

Intel has been on the forefront on innovation churning out servers,PC’s,laptops and handheld devices but it somehow of a latecomer in the smartphone business but its strategy might give it an upper-hand like it happened to Huawei’s Ideos that entered into partnership with Safaricom and sold over 300,000 pieces a few months after its launch.

The big news however is Kenya will be witnessing Intel’s prowess first hand.

Intel is working in partnership with mobile telecommunications firm Safaricom to unveil the first smartphone with Intel Inside this Thursday at Tribe Hotel.

Smartphones with Intel Inside® include   Motorola RAZR* I,  Motorola MT788*,  Orange, MegaFon, Lenovo, Lava and  ZTE.
