In a move aimed at representing the ‘Voice of the Kenyan child’ in Kenya, the Rotary Kenya New Generations is seeking 1M signatures offline and online, in an initiative dubbed as Umeclick?
The peace initiative for peace in 2013 also wants ‘Peace Studies’ included in Kenyan School Education Curriculum.
According to the Rotary Kenya New Generation, ” ‘Umeclick’ will collect one million signatures from various schools, institutions, and partner groups across the country. To promote PEACE in Kenya in line with the overall theme of Rotary 2012-13; Peace Through Service.
Umeclick is Swahili for have you clicked, asking Kenyans using the internet to click and sign.
The organisation says its mission is to position the Voice of the Kenyan child in calling for Peace during the election period in 2013 and teaching peace in Kenya School Education curriculum.
The organisation has both online and offline mobilisation to collect one million signatures as a physical representation in support of the Kenyan child.
Online mobilisation includes use of social media, collection of signs via an E-Sign platform and engaging multiple audiences through interactive online activities.
The initiative plans to have a click for peace rally February 23, 2013 in support of the Kenyan Childs’ plea to uphold peace during the election period. The organisation also aims to gather a minimum of 10,000 participants to set a New Guinness World Record of Longest Human Peace Sign.
Its organisers include Rotary clubs locally and Internationally and others project partners and corporate sponsors listed here.
The team plans to realize funding to support and compliment efforts of the Ministry of Education through Training of Trainers in the subject of Peace and launching peace clubs in schools and institutions of higher learning.
