Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt’s yet to be released book, “The New Digital Age”, co-written by the firm’s Ideas chief Jared Cohen takes on Twitter Search with little love, saying the firm can no more produce analysis than a monkey can type out a work of Shakespeare, and is no laughing matter.
The book also takes on Journalism with tough love. Citing there are so many new actors involved, connected via a range of online platforms, and what is the hope major media outlets? He says major media houses “will report less and validate more”. Low grade reporting will not win the hearts of the elite as they will rely more on established news organizations.
He adds that authoritarian states such as Belarus, Eritrea, Zimbabwe and North Korea would better join an autocratic cyber union, full censorship and monitoring.
