Launched October 2009, True African Art .com is the premier online African art paintings gallery store that focuses on original, one of a kind, African paintings. TrueAfricanArt.com hosts its operations near New York City, USA.
Founded by Kenyan born, GathinjaYamokoski, also one of the website’s 55 African artists, the business has existed as early as 2004 albeit using a different platform. Githinja has lived in the USA since 2002, but travels home almost every year to meet up with artists, family, and friends. Even though she is based in the US, Gathinja told TechMoran True African Art has employed two Kenyans to run the portal’s African operations. ” They stay abreast of the African art scene and collect from the website’s already posted African artists,” she said.
Passion & Business
According to her the site is more than her passion for art as it is growing to be the largest marketplace for African paintings and art.
She told TechMoran,”We fill the gap of honesty and consistency for both the buyer and seller of African art. Our clients continually praise our quick customer service and follow through of communication with their order. Our artists praise our honesty and amount of pay and repetition of business we give them, rather than going through the galleries.”
The site works simply.
Set Up Profile
Interested artists based in Africa send an email to the founder at [email protected] with a short biography about themselves plus their current occupation, and why they feel their art is excellent. Add pictures of all the paintings they would like to be featured on our site. A personal photo and contact information including full name, physical address or residence plus home, work, and cell phone numbers.
“After we review your application, we will respond promptly and if all is good, we will give you instructions for buying your paintings and receiving them,” she adds.
Gathinja adds they respect their artists’ dignity and talent by paying them directly to make their lives better. An artist herself she knows the artists personally and maintains contact with them.
” We rarely go through a gallery to find artworks. Our direct relationship with most of our artists formats the virtues of honesty, good communication, and a serious practice of responsibility. Trust and respect is thus built and is held in high regard for such an international relationship,” said.
Over 50 Painters and Artists
With over 50 African artists using the marketplace for free and getting worldwide exposure and promotion, True African Art uses African ancestry and culture experts to deal with artists. Those familiar with the artists own culture and art.
In October, 2012, the site re-launched a completely new website design for artists to display their full size paintings and art, a client can click on one small image and in an instant the small picture pops out to reveal the complete artwork. The site also has a new Guestbook to visitors and new clients to sign in, video interviews, slide shows and a PayPal Integration to allow direct online purchases and accept all major credit cards.
