Evans Kigen, a Moi University student, one Kenya’s biggest universities is set to launch a social network dubbed VibeCampo.com in a bid to connect all Kenyan students online.
Speaking to him before the launch, Kigen said,”The platform will help improve online interactions mainly in universities and colleges. This move will bring ease to students as they build a personal brand of Who they are? What they do? By showcasing their accomplishments and growing their reputation.”
The yet to be launched platform, inspired by Facebook and using a Facebook page as a prelaunch platform targetting 8000 likes on Facebook www.facebook.com/vibecampo before launch.
VibeCampo will be available both on web and mobile and students can follow or get followed by their comrades, @mention them, create#hashtags on trending topics to discuss ,send messages (tweets) in real-time and receive automatic notifications upon new mentions and new messages. Just like Twitter.
Inspired by the movie the ‘The Social Network’ he wanted to create an opportunity for students to have their own platform and for those vying for student leadership on campuses to take advantage of the platform as a promotional campaign tool to sell their policies and tell comrades of their activities.
At the moment he is using Facebook groups to grow the VibeCampo community.
