From the over 15 firms Tecno mobile has already submitted designs of future plants in the zone to the Ethiopia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT).
The 1.2 Billion Birr ICT Village will be completed this year according to Peter Gatcot, minister of state MoCIT.
Speaking to The Reporter he said that though the construction was sluggish and cost more than the estimated initial budget, it will be completed before year-end, three years after it was initiated.
The Ethio-ICT Village is set on 200 hectares lot, with about 130 hectares dedicated to the private sector and 70 hectares for MoCIT own development infrastructure and SME’s. Expected to create 300 thousand job opportunities, several firms including the ones mentioned have shown interest already before the site is complete. The telcos also see it as an opportunity to supply the MoICT with the infrastructure it needs for the village and for digital migration by the end of the year.
