Telkom Kenya has appointed a new corporate communications head in a move to enhance its public image and to help relay communication between the firm, its shareholders, customers and the public.
Telkom Kenya-Orange probably had the best internet offers in town and was likely making a loss on its unlimited mobile data offers but due to a poor communication strategy customers felt fleeced especially without a clear notice that the package was capped at 20GB. The firm had to respond to concerns from its customers reported to the Consumer Federation.
Ms. Maureen Sande the Chief Corporate Communications Officer will see this never happens again. With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from Daystar University, a Diploma in French from Alliance Française (Telkom Kenya is a subsidiary of Orange France) and certification in Leadership Development from the Gordon Institute of Business Science – University of Pretoria and a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya she will interpret to the public exactly what the executive says.
Telkom Kenya CEO, Mickael Ghossein said,“Maureen comes to us with more than 10 years experience in the Corporate Communications profession, Sponsorships and CSR fields. As our new principal PR officer, we will look to her to enhance our Communications function and to interface with our stakeholders to help better address mutual concerns.”
Maureen is suited for this position as she has worked in a similar position at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She was also the Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility (East & Central Africa) at British American Tobacco and has worked for UNAIDS and Ogilvy Public Relations Kenya, in various capacities in the Public Relations field.
Maureen knows conveying clear messages and engaging with the public as a telco is not child’s play. She said; “Over the years, the business has grown as a Telco that is keen on revolutionising the industry by identifying strategic niches and positions to better improve its service and product offering. It is now, therefore my role to further exploit strategic avenues and channels of communication and engagement, contributing to a strengthened value proposition to all our stakeholders.”
