Co-Creation Hub Limited has received $292,000 in support of an education technology pilot program using mobile phone applications in Lagos State, Nigeria dubbed Efiko, a mobile platform for students self-assessment.
According to their site, Efiko was conceptualized and developed at Tech-In-Education, in February 2012 at the Co-Creation Hub.
Efiko, won the 48-hour gathering of ideas, people and digital tools aimed at creating novel web & mobile solutions, to improve learning at primary and secondary school levels in Nigeria.
Efiko inspires self-learning by engaging students to take charge of their own learning and celebrate their successes. This is achieved through randomized timed quizzes, scoring and ranking with a leader-board, social integration as well as geographical mapping.
The platform’s key features include: Topical based learning, National Curriculum, Standardized content to address shortage of Teachers for certain subjects, Instant scoring and ranking with a leader-board and Social based learning: Peer-to-peer engagement makes learning fun for students therefore students can challenge each other on social media to become top student for different subjects and Incentives: in form of rewarding high performing students on the platform.
Efiko is a mobile platform designed to enhance learning through self-assessment and follows the country’s National Senior Secondary School Curriculum with content from reputable Nigerian Publishers presented in a fun and social way.
The Efiko App is designed to address common challenges students in Africa face such as shortage of teachers, inadequate infrastructure and non-personalised learning due to overcrowded classrooms.
By making education mobile, Efiko helps students to learn at their own pace and at any time wherever they are.
