Ericsson has successfully tested an energy-saving solution for Vodafone Egypt lowering consumption by 40 percent.
According to the firm, in the First Field Implementation (FFI), Psi-Coverage reduced the amount of radios used for Vodafone Egypt’s 3G base station (from 3 to 1) within the network.
Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone Egypt Tony Dolton said: “Psi-Coverage proved to be successful during testing, it reduced power consumption substantially and helped in saving OPEX/CAPEX costs. We are pleased to have partnered with Ericsson yet again on this opportunity to prove technology leadership.”
by eliminating the need of three radios in a coverage area and using one radio unit connected to three antennas, Ericsson-unique Psi-Coverage solution cuts down the energy needed to power all the radio units hence reducing power usage and cutting down costs.
