Launched May 2012 by Jamie Pujara and Nicolas Adamjee, the portal provides potential buyers and renters with a comprehensive property search alongside tools and information – and offer real estate agents with the largest potential audience of house-hunters in Kenya.
Up-to-date Property Listings
Jamie Pujara told TechMoran that in a move to disrupt the real estate market in Kenya, Buyrentkenya.com provides up-to-date listings for residential and commercial properties, land as well as and upcoming projects.
He said,”We have a dedicated team that works to offer the potential homeowner useful advice and guides on buying and selling in Kenya. Our focus is to list properties in residential and commercial sectors from accredited and compliant agents and developers. ”
“The BuyRentkenya.com team manages our members and visitors efficiently to make sure industry best practices are adhered with transparently,” Jamie added.
BuyrentKenya.com works simply.
Agents sign up on the site to list their properties online and have access to the portal’s growing list of users. In March 2013 the portal had 40,000 visitors viewing the listings over 200,000 times. That month BuyRentKenya had 800 successful leads. Their Facebook page which also promotes properties exceeded 40,000 likes.
The site and their Facebook page gives agents exposure to property seekers, agents can then follow the leads via phone and email.
Over 200,000 Views
Jamie adds, “In addition each agent will have their own user name and password providing them with online private access where they can add, change or drop any of their properties. There is also a database tracker that provides insight into how many leads each property has received and allows the agency to quickly respond to any queries.”
For users BuyRentKenya.com offers the widest selection of property in Kenya and the team works with established agencies and developers to reduce fraud and fake postings as well as provide criteria for visitors looking to buy a home. The team believes searching online saves time and gives a more open list of available properties for one to choose their ideal home from.
Jamie told TechMoran, “Our home page provides a quick search and map search. We also have advanced searches for buying and renting whereby you can insert specific criteria. Once you find the property you have looked for, the results page will feature up to 9 photos of the property, a substantial amount of descriptive text, a map and the option to immediately contact the seller via phone or email and the ability to share or send to a friend.”
Simple To Use Interface
He added that the portal has a New Projects page which focuses specifically on upcoming projects allowing one the opportunity to buy off plan at a discounted rate. The portal also has a “Find an Agent’ Page which allows one to find an agent to help them buy, sell, rent or let their property.
With several businesses one could do in Kenya, Jamie says BuyRentKenya is more of a move to solve a problem in the society.
When Jamie first returned to Kenya, he found it incredibly difficult to find his own place. The magazines and newspapers while effective in advertising where not really meeting his needs as there was no way he could easily compare them, nor could he gain much insight from a small picture and 350 characters of text.
In 2011, his close friend Nicolas had come to Kenya for the first time and they discussed starting a portal. Within a few months the plans to form BuyRentKenya had begun. That’s how it was born. With the property market in Kenya continuing to grow, property portals such as BuyRentKenya are becoming mainstream providing the perfect platform for sellers and buyers to interact.
The recent CCK statistics show that Kenya has over 16 million internet users and over thirty million mobile subscribers and the numbers are bound to go up with cheap and first bandwidth with the influx of fiber optics. Internet is the next big platform for not only property but for every business.
30 Million Plus Mobile Subscribers
And BuyRentKenya is growing, at the moment, there are over 5,000 listed properties with over 35 leads generated every day. The team is also focused on the future with every revenue earned ploughed back for growth to make it the portal of choice, with a very good back office and a great search functionality.
To ensure quality, the team says the whole site was built from scratch and is not a template to allows them continually improve it to keep up with the local market. They add that they have a strong social media presence and recently launched their mobile version of the site.
With new developments coming up, BuyRentKenya hope to be a ground breaker in the Kenya property market.
