17 startups from Kenya are at the moment pitching their businesses at the Seedstars World start-up competition, an initiative launched by Seedstars SA, a Swiss-based company which launches ideas, grows startups and builds companies.
Held in 6 cities around the world already, including in Moscow, Dubai – UAE, Baku, Accra, Kigali and Lagos, the Nairobi competition is seeking top start-ups in all sectors – from tech to water/sanitation, agriculture, education, among others.
The startups include Zege Technologies, uhired.me, Lipisha,Jooist, Kenyasitters, Eve’s Mama, Cancer Bank, Muva Technologies,BCT Ventures,Mypo, Ezsacco, ByHand Products, Smart Entreprenuers and eProg Solutions.
The startup founders are given a maximum 6 minutes to pitch the problem, their solution, how it works, their business model, short financials and are represented by only one presenter. The pitches are required to be in PowerPoint, video or live demo. From the 17 pitching startups today at GrowthHub, the judges will select just one startup to represent Kenya in the final global competition to be held in Switzerland by 2014 while 5 other start-ups will be chosen by online viewers to compete in the final round.
