Smile Communications Thursday May 16 launched its 4G LTE broadband network and services with a promise of the fastest, most advanced, highest quality and most reliable technology available anywhere in the world.
Speaking during the launch Group CEO Smile Communications, Irene Charnley said, “‘We are very proud to be Africa’s first provider of true 4G LTE and equally pleased that our first true 4G LTE commercial launch is taking place in Tanzania.”
“From today, Tanzania officially joins the ranks of the most advanced countries in the world at the forefront of the digital revolution – the defining event of our age. And what a revolution it has been. Billions of people across the world are already online, and billions more, including Africa, are set to join them in the next few years,” she added.
The LTE promises access to information and transformation of communication and technology in the country mandatory for social development and economic growth. The fourth generation of wireless networks will give a massive boost to any activity involving the real time transfer of large amounts of data and live streaming of high definition video and television.
The potential of 4G LTE is massive to Tanzanians with upload and download speeds up to 200 Megabits per second users can use it for HD video calling, live television streaming, remote video conferencing and even remote medicine and e-learning.
It will also impact e-government,e-education and e-health applications and will help developers build more applications for use. She added that the 4G LTE broadband will finally fulfil the promise of the internet: by eliminating time and distance.
