Gidilounge on June 1 is set to launch a news music streaming service dubbed gPlayer which the firm says will change the face of music streaming in the region.
Benny Alaga, an executive at Gidilounge told TechMoran, “We have developed and will be releasing a new music streaming service, which will be available on the web and all mobile platforms (iOS, BlackBerry, Windows 8 and Android smartphones and tablets).”
Gidilounge will allow users to discover, listen and share music like never before says Alaga.
” Users can browse and create playlists, save their favorites, listen to our ready-made music lounges and launch our radio station, Gidilounge Radio. A great new way to discover, listen and share African music.”
According to Alaga, “Mobile is the focus for the new Gidilounge music streaming platform. Our current mobile apps available on iOS, Blackberry and Android was the just the beginning (http://gidilounge.com/app). We are very confident in the launch of this world-class product.”

Gidilounge.fm has different categories.
In the Global section, under “Trending”, users can listen to all the popular new releases. Under “Indie”, users will be able to discover new upcoming independent acts. Most African music is independent and it’s an emerging industry. The “Indie” list gives a good selection of upcoming independent music. A weekly Top 10 of most listened to songs on Gidilounge which will allow users to discover new music. Users will be able to share each song, created playlists or lounges via Twitter and Facebook.

Lounges are curated playlists which help users enjoy music based on activities (Cooking/BBQing, Gym or Driving), or popular genres (like Juju, Gospel, Afrobeat and Highlife music). Its ready-made music lounges introduce new artists to users they may never have heard of before.

gpromo3“Users will also enjoy our very popular mobile radio station, Gidilounge Radio. A podcast section will also be available on the app for all our original programming. This is not available on our current app. We have also thrown in some nice features like “now playing”, “Call in feature”, “Social talk” among others, he addded.

The app will be free for users and will remain free both on the web and its mobile apps.
