Momentum Core, a Kenyan gaming startup known for Malaria prevention 2D casual game Mosquito Hood launched last year by Allan Clinton Mukhwana has today announced a new HIV/AIDS awareness game dubbed “Pamoja Mtaani Puzzle” available on the Google Chrome platform.
The game is an initiative between Momentum Core and an NGO based in Kenya HIV Free Generation, the non-profit behind campaigns G-Pange and the award winning series Shuga.
Pamoja Mtaani ( Swahili for “Together in the Hood” ) is a puzzle game for African youth which tells the story of five East Africans, Judy the med student, Sean the techie, Lefty the footballer, Lady D. the musician, and Georgy the tout, using awareness videos and jigsaw puzzles according to Mukhwana.
“It is a great way for young players to develop attention and concentration on the disease. The game has also been adapted to suit all levels of ability whereby players can choose between three difficulty levels (Easy, Hard and Brutal),” he added.
In the game, the player has to match various pieces on a jigsaw puzzle and form a complete image that contains elements on facts about HIV/AIDS. What the game does, it takes a picture from within the game and jumbles it up into pieces. The player has to reassemble the picture in the quickest time, or in as few moves as he or she can.
The game is neither too easy to get players bored nor too hard to overwhelm them.
Mukhwana says they have used a leader board system on the game to transform playing experience into a tense competition. Players are ranked by how fast and number of moves they take to finish the puzzle. This means that a player sees himself in relation to the other users that he has a chance of passing in the short term.
