mtn-ussepMay 31, MTN Uganda launched its 7th Annual Edition of the campaign dubbed, 21 Days of Y’ello Care.

21 Days of Y’ello Care is an annual 21 day long MTN staff volunteerism initiative in which employees across MTN’s international footprint take time off to physically get involved in activities that uplift communities around them through financial, physical and emotional contributions. This year’s focus is ‘Investing in Education for All’ with a special focus on ICT in Education.

In 2012, MTN Uganda partnered with Gayaza High School, the Microsoft Pathfinder School of East and Central Africa to roll out an e-Learning platform to 50 schools around the country. Gayaza High School is committed to sharing knowledge and acting not only as the pioneer school for this initiative, but also a viable partner in rolling out this platform that supports e-Learning to positively impact and empower secondary school children around the country.

Anthony Katamba  MTN Uganda’s GM – Corporate Services explained that the e-learning platform is an initiative geared at impacting and empowering learners with in the country through improved electronic educational content and user enabling apps, considering that the whole world is now going online.

To further leverage the platform this year, MTN Uganda together with Gayaza High School, have launched an online quiz opened to all the 50 schools already integrated onto the platform- these school can be found in the Central, North, East and West of the Country and operate through regional hub schools that further enable the dissemination of information as well as provide for both teacher and student training opportunities.

The funding of the project is solely dependent on contributions from MTN Staff who also physically get involved in the campaign activities. Leveraging on our regional presence across the country, the planned activities will allow a cross section of our staff to participate in this worthy Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. MTN Uganda firmly believes that ICT sector holds tremendous promise as an enabler of social development especially in Education. – Mazen Mroué, CEO MTN Uganda

21 lucky students from 21 of the 50 schools will stand a chance to win a scholarship of 1 year’s fully paid school fess. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the students to not only win, but also experience the excitement and the power of e-Learning.
