Weza Tele, the firm behind Kenya’s MyOrder.co.ke, a real time mobile ordering platform for buyers and sellers is set to launch Duka Tele, online shops for retail stores to allow them to sell their stuff online without having eCommerce enabled sites or worrying about delivery.
Speaking to TechMoran, Angela Ouma, MyOrder’s communication and sales lead said, “After signing up over 100 shops and serving over 400 customers in Nairobi on our MyOrder platform, we will soon be launching Duka Tele which will cater for non food items as many stores on MyOrder are food related.”
According to Ouma, Duka Tele will exclusively host retailers with non food stores such as books, electronics, computers, furniture, beauty products and clothing.
Duka Tele will allow buyers to visit stores online and order books, computers, electronics, food, beauty products and cosmetics as long as they have an internet enabled computer or have a smartphone.
The web platform has SMS notifications to both the seller and buyer tracking the items shipment until it is finally delivered to the buyer. This will avoid fraud and delays.
Just like MyOrder, Duka Tele will help buyers buy non food items from retailers of their choice from the comfort of their homes or offices using a simple mobile menu on their smartphones or computers.
Duka Tele works simply, users select chose a shop, browse through a category of items listed, select their prefered items then head to check out. After placing orders, notifications are sent to both the buyer and seller’s mobile phones with the name and the phone number of the customer, as well as the pricing and details of their order or orders. Duka Tele then engages their delivery partners to see the items are delivered to the buyer.
Though Weza Tele’s move will help traders reach more customers and bring convenience to the buyer, they are not the first in the market to do this, Rupu, a daily deals site in Kenya recently launched RupuShops, allowing retailers to sell their discounted stuff online.
Incubated at the Nailab, Weza Tele builds Mobile Web and SMS applications for order management, distribution, tracking, circulation and validation solutions and was founded by Sam Kitonyi, Newton Kitonga and Hilda Moraa.
