Israel Saria (pictured above), a sports contributor to the BBC Swahili World Service founded Tanzaniasports.com three years ago to support the development of sports in Tanzania by covering sports news and developments locally and internationally for the country’s sports community.
Registered under Tanzaniasports UK Ltd, Saria says the company also undertakes business initiatives in the sports sector in Tanzania and also has excellent working relations with the Tanzania Government and sports institutions in Tanzania and sports associations.
“The aim of the company is to support the Tanzanian Government in developing sports and raising the profile of the country in the international sports arena through partnerships with the private sector,” he said.
Tanzaniasports.com covers just about any sports from volleyball, netball, soccer, basketball and swimming to boxing, cricket among others.
According to their site, they cover all sports in the country becuase that is what they want to promote. “We focus on promoting all sports in Tanzania and create a forum for exchanges on sports issues between various institutions and supporters.”
Apart from just writing about sports, the site also managed to a top American basketball coach to Tanzania to conduct basketball clinics and a top Spanish to promote Tanzania cycling.
Tanzaniasports also provide information and practical advice to institutions, organisations or other individuals in the UK interested in Tanzanian sport and says they have set up meetings to discuss areas of cooperation and investment through the Tanzania High Commission in London.
The firm also has links with the UK Premiership League and connects visits of UK Premiership football teams to Tanzania as well as visits of Tanzania clubs to the UK.
