A new water billing system has just been launched in Tanzania in a move that will see all water bills automated and paid electronically via mobile money.
Launched earlier today by the Dar Es Salaam Water and Sewerage Corporation (DAWASCO) the system will begin this month and is expected to enable customers from the corporation’s 13 stations to pay their bills via Vodafone M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Tigo Pesa and ZANTEL’s EZY PESA.
According to Jackson Midala, DAWASCO Chief Executive Officer: “This new system will help customers to make payment at any place or point even outside Dar es Salaam and outside the country.”
The mobile money services are aimed at improving and maintaining great relationships with their customers and bettering services in the country.
Water bills can also be paid through Maxmalipo and Selcom services which will also help reduce the time customers waste on queues paying bills at DAWASCO stations.
Apart from mobile services customers with bank accounts with Tanzania’s CRDB, NMB, Postal Bank, Akiba Commercial Bank (ACB), EXIM, Barclays and BOA Bank can however pay their water bills from their respective banks.
