Safaricom Limited has taken up gold sponsorship of the inaugural OLX Social Media Awards.
Safaricom has also promised to offer free 3G high speed internet during the gala dinner ceremony that will be held on 9thAugust 2013 at Laico Regency Hotel, Nairobi.
According to Bob Collymore, Safaricom’s Chief Executive Officer, “It is in our strategy that we support great initiatives that seek to impact the society positively. The power of social media cannot be down played in today’s society as it forms a major part of everyday life for individuals and organizations alike”.
He further added that it is “an honor to partner with the first Social media awards that reward excellence in different social media platforms.”
Launched this year, the OLX Social Media Awards will reward organizations and individuals who have aptly used social media to bring about positive change across the social, economic and political divide. The awards have 25 different categories with each category attracting 5 nominees translating to 125 nominees in total.
Safaricom just recently sponsored Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE Awards). The Social Media and BAKE awards aim at increasing internet use int he country.
“The increased access to internet connectivity in Kenya especially through mobile platforms has spurred the growth and use of social media,” said Martin Muli, the Director of the 2013 Social Media Awards. ” The awards will create best practice standards for online engagement for individuals and organizations as others would want to emulate the winners”.
OLX, Public Relations Society of Kenya, Deloitte, Trinc Media, Valentine Cake House, Niaje and Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) are some of the key partners.
