Niko Hapa was awarded for addressing social and development challenges using the Internet said the the FIRE programme Awards.
The awardss are granted to initiatives already completed or in their final implementation phase and that are aligned with innovation on Access Provision, E-Development and Freedom of Expression.
Niko Hapa is a customer engagement platform build in Kenya by Bernard Adongo. The startup enables customers to have one-on-one conversations with their favorite brands via their mobile phones. It also enables users to “check-in” at partners (Cafes, restaurants, barbershops, etc.) using SMS. This check-ins help businesses to engage with their customers, reward their loyalty, provide them useful analytics on customer traffic and great marketing.
Niko Hapa won the Innovation on Access Provision category.

Niko Hapa and the three others will receive a cash prize of US$ 3000 and a travel grant to attend the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) taking place in Bali, Indonesia from the 22nd until the 25th of October 2013.They will also have an opportunity to showcase their project, make professional contacts and participate in discussions about the future of the Internet.
