Report: 250 Million People to Browse Adult Content via Mobile by 2017

browsingA new report released by technology research company, Juniper Research, has predicted the number of people accessing adult content via mobile and tablet devices will hit half a billion people by 2017, representing a 30 percent increase from the current figures.

In the report dubbed “Mobile Adult Content: Monetization, Technologies & Legislation 2013 – 2018”, Juniper research said that this increase is fueled by the increased penetration of smartphones and tablets, devices that are faster and more personal, as compared to desktops that were hitherto the main access points.

Adult content providers are also said to be shifting from producing desktop content into high-definition, niche-centric products that are optimized for mobile viewing, enabling more people access the content via their devices.

“Whilst Juniper expects the total number of users of both desktop and mobile adult content to remain broadly consistent, we expect to see continued migration to smartphones and tablets, as more enhanced, tailored content makes its way onto these personal devices,” reads part of the report.

Research conducted back in 2010 by Optnet showed that over 37 percent of the Internet is made up of pornographic content, suggesting that the number could be way higher at the moment going by the trend observed in the recent past.
