ThatNewJob is a Ghanaian jobs website that allows jobseekers to search, apply and track their job applications. Job advertisers are also able to advertise and manage job applications easily on the website.
Founded in May 2013 by Toye Akinwale, a UK based entrepreneur, the web portal aims to assist jobseekers to find their next job by making all jobs accessible to jobseekers, thus ensuring that jobs are awarded to the best candidates. Toye Akinwale told TechMoran, unemployment leads to other social and economic issues and by tackling this issue head on, we believe we can make a difference.
Born in Canada, Toye moved to the UK aged 15 after spending a few years in secondary school in Nigeria, and he says he had always wanted to do something of value in Africa.
“Having lived most of my life in the UK, I have always had the desire to make a difference and give back in some way and the idea of a jobs website came to me during one of my visits to Nigeria and Ghana, Toye Akinwale told TechMoran. “I realised during the holiday that one of the major issues faced by graduates and experienced professionals was having the means to search and apply for jobs available across the country.’
He adds, ”Our strategy was to start out in Ghana with plans to launch the same service in Nigeria within the next 18months. Having launched in Ghana, the feedback has been extremely positive and we are pleased to know ThatNewJob is making a difference in helping the thousands of jobseekers searching for jobs in Ghana.”
The startup firm is not without competition. Nigeria and Ghana are dominated by One African Media’s Jobberman which has raised a significant amount of funding to consolidate its businesses in West Africa. However, ThatNewJob says they studied them all and confirms their service is easier to use. They don’t advertise expired jobs and the Free SMS, Email Job Alerts features on their portal actually work. They are also the only jobs website in Ghana offering free SMS Alerts to jobseekers with more features planned.
With no external funding, ThatNewJob says it is in constant discussions with a large number of small/medium/large corporates in Ghana about vacant jobs and provides them with the service of advertising these jobs to jobseekers via their website. They are also in partnership with various recruitment agencies to advertise jobs on behalf of their clients in Ghana.
