Kenyan Company Launches an Online Cross-Network Airtime Purchasing Solution

scratch cardsKenyans will now be able purchase airtime from any mobile service provider in the country in a single payment platform, after a local company launched an online service to make this possible.

The service was launched by AJA Limited, and all a subscriber has to do is visit their electronic top up portal, type in the number to be topped up and choose the payment method before their order is processed and their numbers topped up.

Joel Kepaou, AJA’s Technical Lead said that the service is aimed at making easier for customers to purchase airtime without necessarily being limited by the mobile service provider.

“A case in point to illustrate this is that many customers in Kenya have a Safaricom line for voice communications and money transfer, but own Orange or Airtel lines for Internet,” Kepaou told BusinessDailyAfrica.

Subscribers are currently limited to purchasing airtime directly from their service providers, something that has for a long time frustrated them in cases where they cannot find airtime vendors for that particular provider.

Mobile money has however helped in solving this issue, but is still limited to the service provider.

AJA has already signed agreements with the mobile providers to offer this service to their subscribers at an undisclosed commission.
