BenQ Hints On Re-embarking The Mobile Phone Market

The mobile phone market will soon have to welcome Taiwan’s BenQ back as it has been reported that it wants to make a come back after closing the phone division in 2008.

This time the company will  not be manufacturing new phones but will be rebranding the models that were assembled by Qisda on its behalf.

BenQ is expected to start with two entry-level smartphones for the Taiwanese market, the BenQ A3 and the BenQ F3.

The BenQ A3 is powered by a Qualcomm quad-core processor and equipped with a 4.5-inch qHD display and 8-megapixel camera, while the BenQ F3 will be powered by a MediaTek 1.2GHz quad-core MT6589 CPU and packs a 4.5-inch qHD display and 12-megapixel camera, revealed the sources.

Having a short lived high-profile mobile division, the Taiwanese company had bought a handset division form Siemen in 2005 but stopped the division’s funding where it had filed for bankruptcy in late 2006.

The bankruptcy sparked controversy over whether the Taiwanese firm had bought the Siemens division simply to gain its IP assets and had always intended to close down the German factories. It later released more phones supplied by its Taiwan factories, but stopped production in 2008.

BenQ currently focuses on marketing monitors, LCD TVs and projectors.

With new gadgets coming up every now and then and the rapid growth of the industry would anyone want to buy one that was there before? What really made BenQ reconsider the venture are they sure they will keep up with the pace as a lot has happened in the market since 2008.
