Intel Kenya has today launched Intel Explore and Learn application that offers parents and children quality digital content developed for the Kenyan education system.
This is a product of the partnership between Intel and Rancard, an African- based mobile technology company that provides cloud-based software platform for mobile content discovery, delivery and monetization.
The solution will provide access to a variety of content including text books, set books, interactive past exam papers, rich multimedia for Kenyan students from Primary to High school level.
“The aim of the Intel Explore and Learn solution is to provide a resource hub where learners can find relevant content to enrich their studies while at the same time provide publishers with access to a platform that will enable them to easily share their learning content. We would like to call upon all publishers and other content providers to partner with Intel in delivering exciting quality education content to Kenya’s children to transform how they study and enable children to create their tomorrow,” said Intel’s’ Middle East and Africa Business Development Directpr, Cigdem Ertem.
Intel has so far partnered with Kenya Institute of Circulum Developers (KICD), eKitabu, Misingi pack and Taifa leo.
This platform is designed to address challenges facing adoption of digital education as it is a one stop shop with relevant education content, that means no reference is needed; offline access to downloaded content; content availability anywhere anytime; parents can buy only what their children need through mobile money and accepted credit and debit cards.
The Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Education Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi said: “indeed, towards the realization of Vision 2030, the education system will be guided by placing emphasis on new developments and subsequent innovations in science and technology. It is initiatives such as this that promote the soci-economic, technological and industrial skills for the country’s development.”
Intel is also planning to roll out training sessions for teachers interested in digitizing their content in partnership with KICD and KPSA(Kenya Private Schools Association).
It would be easy to conclude that only the well-off schools and student will be the ones to benefit as they have the electronic devices within their reach but Ertem told Techmoran that they will be working with the government to ensure that children who do not have the devices to access this platform outside the school will be taken care of.
He also said that they will also include the SMS platform to facilitate the program, apart from that, there is a reseller program that Intel will start that involve people selling out internet devices like phones, laptops and tablets and help the disadvantaged students purchase them.
