Nigeria and Kenya to Become Biggest Cloud Users by 2014

In a recent survey by World Wide Worx, Kenya and Nigeria will see its businesses use cloud services greatly by the end of 2014.

In 2014, 80 percent of the respondents say they will switch to cloud services compared to 72 percent in Kenya and 66 percent in South Africa.

The research that interviewed top business executives from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa showed that currently, South Africa has the highest people using cloud service. 50 percent of the businesses interview in South Africa are comfortable using the cloud.

Only 48 percent in Kenya and 36 percent in Nigeria are comfortable with the cloud system. The research shows that Nigeria will outpace South Africa in the usage of cloud services.

The announcement comes days after Cisco announced its Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) that will enable business easily use cloud services more efficiently.

With the cloud greatly demystified, Cisco projects that nearly two-thirds of all data center workloads will be processed in the cloud.

“A new paradigm shift drive by cloud, mobility and big data is redefining IT, with the web-based economy shifting to an app-based economy,” said Sabrina Dar, Cisco General Manager, East Africa.

This new technology will assure that application are stored and processed in the cloud regardless of the technology behind the servers or application.
