UGANDA’S NEW TELECOM TO BEAT “TOP DOGS”.

New telecom’s launch in Uganda promising to arrest network problems and insufficient service provision is underway expected to roll out services early next month.

The Telecom has also asked the state’s citizens to put a name on it with a prize to earn on whoever gives them a name. “Give us a name” it says on its website. Ugandans have however dished out a few names to suggest the new telco’s name.

With almost 40 licensed mobile operators through Uganda Communication Commission, the telecom hopes to penetrate the local market that feels congested with 17 million subscribers despite having only five companies actively engaged to the market.

Mark Kaheru, a market analyst pointed out on the loop holes in the market industry in terms of reach and consistency from the current players, which the upcoming mobile operator promises to fill. “Sometimes I spend two days without network, if we get a new entrant who can provide better services, I will be the first to move.”

In a recent case of Warid one of the major telecoms in Uganda trying to woo customers  by providing low call tariffs that largely attracted customers however landing the company to a ditch having to sell its stake to Airtel due to company struggles.
