Zambia’s rural To get More Towers To Enhance Network Service

The government of Zambia is planning on spending $24 million in deploying more mobile phone towers in the rural areas in order to enhance coverage where there are no network services.

Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) will take charge of tis project and will ensure that there are 169 new telecoms towers in operation.

This project should be done by the end of this year and will see mobile phone coverage expanded to more than 200,000 people who are not being served by mobile networks.

The towers will be let out to the mobile networks, who then provide the service direct to customers.

It’s estimated that around 5 million people living in rural areas currently lack access to mobile phone coverage.
