The feature has been released to all L SeriesII smartphones after it was launched on the LG’s G Series smart devices, including the curved G Flex and the G Pad 8.3 tablet and G2.
Josep Kim, the LG East Africa Managing Director said the feature will allow users directly access the home screen of the device without using the power button or picking it up.
“With several recent studies showing that average users check their smartphones more than one hundred times a day, KnockON has become one of the most widely-used and well-received UX features. Due to its exceptional convenience, we expect KnockON to become very popular among users in Kenya and beyond.”
LG says the feature was a necessary side effect from the power button being on the back of the phone for user who might want to wake the phone to see a notification, but not necessarily pick it up to do so.
“Knock is distinctively an LG UX and a great example of what happens when you marry the latest in mobile technology with consumer-centric insights,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO, LG Mobile.
“No one ever thought that a power button needed to be improved until our engineers wondered why they couldn’t turn the entire screen into a power button,” said Dr Park.
