Twenty Five faculty members from Cross River University attended the course delivered by Nigerian professor Dr. Abel Usoro, who teaches the Oracle Academy course at the West of Scotland University

The addition of this course to the already successful Oracle Academy engagement in Nigeria further affirms Oracle’s commitment to support the development of computer science skills, which are fundamental to economic growth and business development

The Oracle Academy training also supports the development of 21st Century Skills – including collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.  The training requires students to use these skills in their projects from the idea-gathering and design stage at the beginning to the final presentation of their work.

Robust training programmes for teachers and faculty are a critical component of Oracle Academy’s effort to enhance computer science education.  We are excited to extend our engagement with universities in Nigeria by adding this Train the Trainer Introduction to Computer Science course to our existing Advanced Computer Science program.”

Adebayo Sanni, Country Manager of Oracle Nigeria adds, “Our job as an industry leader is to help teachers impart globally transferable skill sets to their students, ones that will be of relevance to a broad spectrum of careers.”

The in-class format allowed us the opportunity to have hands-on experience. It will be excellent if we can impart this knowledge on to our students, not only those studying Computer Science, but others that may benefit from this for use in their future careers.”
