Nokia Lumia users can now make international and domestic calls to mobile phones and landlines straight from the popular chat app, Viber.
This follows the release of Viber 4.1 update for Nokia Lumia devices running on Windows phone 8 which adds a raft of new features to widen the chatting potential for the users. Viber is already one of the most-used messaging apps on the Windows Phone platform.
“This is a timely upgrade that permits Nokia Lumia users to call mobile and landline numbers as long as you’re connected to a 3G or Wi-Fi network, you’ll be able to place calls,” said Nokia East Africa Operative Products and Devices Manager King’ori Gitahi.
However, whereas Viber to Viber calls will utilize your data, users will need up-front credit to make Viber Out calls to mobile phones and landlines but at a cheaper rate. Users can be able to check the costs of calling within Viber itself by going to Settings > Viber Out > Get Rates.
In addition to cheaper calling, Viber has also added the ability to send video messages, send multiple photos at the same time and now supports hands-free Bluetooth connectivity.
