Ethio Telecom has finalized its second phase of the US$ 1.6 Billion network expansion deal it had signed in 2013 with Huawei and ZTE.
Ethio Telecom completed the first phase earlier and is emabrking to the third phase after completing the second phase of the project. The third phase of the project is expected to provide 4G service for over 400,000 customers and bring the call success rate to 98 percent in Adis Ababa.
Ethio Telecom’s Public Relations Director Abdurahim Ahmed said the completion of phase II enabled the firm to successfully swap the network of 239 areas in the city and increase the quality of the mobile service in the city.
The third phase will have network installation work for 411 areas and is expected to increase the capacity of mobile service in the city to 6.5 Million from 3.4 Million. The firm will replace old mobile phone networks and install 4G broadband technology by June 2014 in more than 700 areas.
