A month after the roll out its 3G network in Uasin Gishu County, Orange Kenya has added Nakuru County into the fold as the fifth County covered by its high-speed 3G service. This comes at a time when the company is moving to consolidate its data services business in the current financial year, as this is viewed to be the next growth area in the country’s telecommunication industry.

The company is already recording impressive results from its data business, with the unit growing by 17 percent in the first quarter on a year-on-year basis.

Company CEO Mickael Ghossein said that the endorsement by the regulator, Competition Authority of Kenya, as having the best 3G network in terms of quality of service is enough motivation to continue building on this to hit the 80 per cent.

“Part of our Ksh2.5 billion investment this year has been dedicated to the rolling out of 3G network across the country, and transform our operations to enhance service delivery,” said Ghossein.

He added that Orange is constructing the national backbone fibre and laying of transport cables across the country in preparation for the launch of internet connectivity via optional fibre networks in Kenya and by extension, the region.
