Government Blames Private Sector For Delay On Digital Switch.

“The country is ready to migrate but the Court cases filed by the private sector are delaying the shift” at least according to Information Communication Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i who has blamed the private sector for sluggish digital migration process.

With only 600,000 set top boxes bought in the last six months, the country is running behind time with the migration even after the campaign to digitalization got 80 percent of Kenyans’ awareness. With cases still pending in court, the country’s deadline meant to be June this year will not be a possibility.

Speaking at the opening of the third Africa Technology Union Digital Migration and Spectrum Policy Summit the Cabinet Secretary said he hoped the forum will provide consensus building on the migration also saying Africa can no longer lag behind.

International Technology Union Director General Francis Rancy urged African governments to meet their various deadlines so as to be in a position to meet the worldwide deadline June 17, 2015 since it will be impossible to change the date.
