CEO Weekends: Al-Qaeda Launches New Homebrew Crypto Apps to Defy US Intelligence

KUWAIT-BINLADEN-VIDEOA new report shows that Al Qaeda affiliate firms are using new encryption software in a bid to defy US intelligence tracking in the wake of  Edward Snowden’s leaks about the National Security Agency’s intelligence programme.
The report from intelligence firm Recorded Future says the group adopted three new major encryption tools to replace or strengthen their Mujahideen Secrets crypto app the group has used since 2007. The report says the apps include; a September 2013 launched mobile proram dubbed Tashfeer al-Jawwal developed by the Global Islamic Media Front. Asrar al-Ghurabaa and Al-Sham developed by the Iraq’s Islamic State and the third, developed in December by Al-Fajr Technical Committee and known as Amn al-Mujahid.
Though highly assumpimng, the analysis shows how the groups has in four to five months launched three new encryption tools after Snowden’s revelations. Read the full report here.
