Seedstars World Comes to East Africa Again

10404229_650643908355569_1871628529113950469_nWorldwide startup competition in emerging markets, Seedstars World will take place June 19 and June 27 in Kigali and Kampala respectively then July 3rd in Nairobi. Last year’s Nairobi event was held at the Growth Hub where mobile gaming platform Jooist emerged the winner.

This year, Seedstars will be held at the iHub to help find the best Kenyan startup. Seedstars Nairobi applications are on until June 25th. The Nairobi winner will join other regional winners to Switzerland to pitch before European investors and global mentors for USD 500K.

Jooist founder, Waliaula Makokha who flew to Switzerland to pitch his startup last February said: ”I met with very valuable contacts and potential partners when I was in Switzerland. It was also such a great opportunity to meet fellow entrepreneurs from all corners of the world. I can now reach out to any entrepreneur in more than 20 different countries”.

552644_361941937225769_670128302_nIn Dakar Senegal, Seedstars World 2014 was hosted at Jokkolabs with support from CTIC Dakar. Dakar’s Izitab, a SME specialized tablet was the best followed by Niokobok, an e-commerce startup, which allows diaspora to ship food packages to their relatives in Africa, and Eco Santé, a medical monitoring service that regularly visits customers at their homes. Ghana’s Kitiwa, a bitcoin startup emerged winner at Seedstars World Accra, Nigeria’s Green Energey won Seedstarts Lagos, while myVLE won Seedstars Morrocco.

Apart from Nairobi, Kampala, Kigali and Cape Town are set to host their own Seedstarts versions.
